Da Nang: Top Vietnamese Destination for Global Travelers

Vietnam’s Most Sought-After Destinations in 2024

In the first half of this year, Da Nang emerged as the top Vietnamese destination searched for by international travelers, according to data from Agoda, a leading online travel platform. This city, known for its beautiful coastline and modern infrastructure, was followed closely by Ho Chi Minh City, which continues to attract visitors with its vibrant culture and bustling urban life.

Nha Trang secured the third position on the list, while Hanoi and Phu Quoc Island rounded out the top five. These destinations offer a unique blend of cultural heritage, historical sites, and natural beauty, making them appealing to a wide range of travelers. Hoi An, with its well-preserved ancient town and charming riverside setting, also made it into the top five, showcasing the diversity of experiences available across Vietnam.

Da Nang saw a significant increase in visitor numbers during the first five months of the year, welcoming 4.6 million tourists—an 18% rise compared to the same period last year. Among these, over 2 million were international visitors, highlighting the city’s growing appeal to global travelers.

Vietnam as a whole welcomed 10.7 million foreign visitors in the first half of the year, marking a 20.7% year-on-year increase. However, this number still lags behind Thailand’s 16.6 million arrivals, indicating that Vietnam is still catching up in terms of international tourism volume.

Mainland China remained the largest source of tourists to Vietnam during the January-June period, with 2.72 million arrivals—a 44% increase compared to the previous year. South Korea came in second with 2.2 million visitors, followed by Taiwan (629,000), the United States (449,000), and Japan (393,000). These figures reflect the continued strong interest from Asian markets, particularly from neighboring countries.

Agoda noted that South Korean travelers have a clear preference for coastal and island destinations. Nha Trang was the most searched location by Korean tourists, followed by Da Nang and Phu Quoc Island. These locations are favored for their pristine beaches, water activities, and relaxed atmosphere, making them ideal for both leisure and adventure seekers.

The popularity of these destinations underscores the growing appeal of Vietnam as a tourist destination. With its mix of natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and improving infrastructure, Vietnam is increasingly becoming a go-to destination for travelers from around the world. As the country continues to invest in tourism development and promote its unique offerings, it is likely to see even greater growth in the coming years.
