Cycling: Mwamikazi Celebrates Victory Over Rival Ingabire’s Domestic Reign

Ndabaga cycling team rider Djazilla Mwamikazi was all smiles after overtaking biggest rival Diane Ingabire to win the 2025 National Cycling Championship over the weekend. Fresh from UCI training camp in France, Mwamikazi rode her way to the finish line in Gasanze to claim the 126-kilometer race in 3 hours 13 minutes and 25 seconds, outsprinting Diane Ingabire Germany-based club Canyon Sram whole arrived some pieces of a second later. Ingabire was eager to defend her victory in the 2024 national cycling championship at which Mwamikazi failed to even make it the podium. However, the latter made the best out of her recent professional training sessions form French-based UCI center to raise the bar high during the 2025 edition’s road race which took off in Shyorongi, heading to Gasanze via Base, Gicumbi and Nyacyonga. The young rider, after winning the race, said, I can’t hide my satisfaction with the way I won this race. I am delighted not only with winning the championship but the overall performance during the race where I managed to beat Diane who has been dominating for the past three years so it is something incredible for my career.” “My first target was to push to the last minute and I waited until the last minute to sprint and win the race. I tried to play good game by managing myself until the end of the race and I am glad I have achieved that. In the meantime,” Mwamikazi said. Mwamikazi is part of cyclists benefiting from the UCI program aimed at developing African cycling talents. She trained in South Africa and Rwanda, and the experience paid off, helping her to win three international races, including the Tour de Rhuys in France.
