SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – On Saturday at JD Hamel Park on the Sarasota Bayfront, a large crowd gathered to express their frustration with the Trump administration.
There is no word on the number of participants, but some in attendance estimated there were roughly 1,000 people at the park.
People began gathering at 5:30 p.m. and by 6 p.m. they lined the streets with signs, and sat on the grass at the park to hear speakers like Zander Moricz. “We deserve more say in our government and greater transparency from our government,” he told ABC7. “This is an authoritarian regime, attempting to take control of our country and we’re fighting back.”
At 7 p.m., an ocean of protestors crossed the Ringling Bridge.
Americans young and old holding signs and waving flags, calling out for a stop to President Donald Trump’s policies. All lining the edges of US 41 in the area but not blocking traffic, participants were safely on the sidewalk.
Many protesters at the event said they are looking to an end of the fascism they see in government, and they want their children and grandchildren to grow up in liberty and freedom.
By contrast, Republican State Committeewoman Rachel Frank defended Trump supporters, saying liberals’ fears that Trump wants to be a king are unfounded. “It’s clear that conservatives don’t worship Trump,” she said. “We know that President Trump is not royalty. We just prefer a leader who takes care of the people and doesn’t act like government is God.”
