Coupang Eats Dives into Quick Commerce with Non-Food Expansion

Coupang Eats, the food delivery platform operated by South Korean e-commerce giant Coupang, has launched a new “Shopping” category that offers quick commerce services for products sold by local small businesses. The new feature enables one-hour delivery of items such as flowers, cosmetics, and clothing, purchased from individual proprietors, via Coupang Eats delivery riders.

According to industry sources on July 4, Coupang Eats recently added the “Shopping” tab to its app and is actively promoting the service to neighborhood merchants, encouraging them to join the platform. The service is currently being piloted in the Gangnam-gu area of Seoul, with Coupang Wow membership subscribers eligible for free delivery.

Baemin has also expanded its open-market quick commerce service to include more than 10,000 retail partners nationwide, ranging from the country’s four major convenience store chains—GS25, CU, 7-Eleven, and Emart24—to large-scale supermarkets and independent neighborhood retailers.

Coupang Eats is currently focusing its pilot project on partnerships with individual proprietors rather than corporate chains. According to industry sources, the company is preparing to launch the service across all of Seoul as early as the third quarter of this year, while closely monitoring market response.
