The evidence featured a series of text exchanges between LaBella and the movie’s intimacy coordinator. However, Costner’s legal rep called BS on the messages she provided, stressing the alleged rape scene never played out the way she painted it. Singer told
TMZ
:
“Ms. LaBella was
doing a rehearsal on
an Insert Shot for a scripted scene. There was no intimacy or anything sexual in the shot. There was tugging on a dress while she
was fully clothed
in a dress with long bloomers lying down next to a male actor.”
The Hollywood Veteran Has Witnesses To Support His Innocence
According to Costner’s attorney, they had more than words to support their claims of innocence. The legal rep claimed “numerous witnesses” had debunked LaBella’s “meritless claims,
”
and they had text messages that proved she did not have a traumatic experience on set.
The messages they shared were allegedly sent
between LaBella and the movie’s supervisor. The text the accuser sent, obtained by the outlet, read: “Thank you for these wonderful weeks! I so appreciate you! I learned
so much
, and thank you again. I’m
really happy
it worked out the way it did
too
.”
However, LaBella sang a different tune in her amended lawsuit, where she doubled down on Costner being “either involved in or fully aware of every single thing going on.
”
She accused him of directing a “violent unscripted, unscheduled rape scene,
”
which she backed with text messages exchanged between her and the movie’s intimacy coordinator.
Costner’s Accuser Labeled The Alleged Incident An ‘Abomination’
The Blast
covered the text messages LaBella added to her sexual harassment lawsuit, reporting that she penned her complaints about the alleged rape scene to the movie’s intimacy coordinator, Celeste Cheney. One of the messages she sent to the latter captured her frustration over the incident, reading:
“I wanted to discuss yesterday’s abomination when we both have a chance …
I was put
in a
really
wrong position
and
it’s
really
affected me.”
LaBella also questioned Cheney about her absence during the incident, wondering why they would shoot such a sensitive scene without her input. Her queries continued with questions about the wardrobe choice and why she was forced to do “non-stunt work, especially given the sensitivity of it.”
More About The Sexual Harassment Drama
In her lawsuit, LaBella claimed she
was hired
as a stunt double for actress Ella Hunt. Her contract stated she would stand in for the TV personality during physical scenes or stunts, but things changed in May 2023 when Hunt refused to shoot a sensitive scene with actor Roger Ivens.
Ivens, per her allegations, was to “climb on top of Ms. Hunt, violently raking up her skirt.
”
Since the actress refused to shoot the scene, Costner allegedly told LaBella to stand in for the Hunt “without proper notice, consent, preparation, or appropriate safeguard measures in place.”
LaBella claimed the incident left her feeling “reminders of shame, humiliation, and complete lack of control.
”
She took a few days off to reset, only to return to an “awkward
”
environment
that saw her
being
told
to stay in her trailer and not
go close to
the set.
Kevin Costner Looks Forward To The Future Amid The Legal Debacle
Although LaBella blames Costner for her alleged trauma, the legal drama hasn’t stopped him from enjoying life. Weeks after
the sexual harassment lawsuit was filed
in May, the Hollywood veteran got candid about the future in an interview with
PEOPLE
.
Costner declared retirement wasn’t on his mind at 70, noting he had no plans on leaving the entertainment industry thanks to his vibrant imagination. However, he said, “Imagination is what determines what I do, not a boss.”
The Oscar winner added that he felt
”
really lucky
”
in life and liked to think that he worked hard to achieve everything he had. As for the future, Costner confessed that he did not have a bucket list, saying:
“I don’t have those things. I have that list, [but] I don’t refer to it that way. But
certainly
my eyes and my enthusiasms are wide open and
very big
.”
