This year, out of 25 total students, 15 AP tests were attempted, with 12 scoring a 3 or higher—considered a passing grade. This resulted in an 80% pass rate, which is remarkable for a small classical Christian school. Last year, the school achieved an even more impressive feat, with every student passing every AP test they attempted. Cornerstone encourages all students, regardless of their academic strengths, to take these challenging college-level exams, providing them with valuable experience and opportunities for growth.
English Department Shines Again
Doreen Tomlin’s English students once again demonstrated exceptional performance, with all of her students passing every AP English test they took. This year, her class achieved a 100% pass rate, significantly surpassing the national average of 74%. This consistent success highlights the quality of instruction and dedication of both students and teachers at Cornerstone Academy.
STEM Excellence Matches English Achievements
The school’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) departments also showed strong results this year. Cornerstone had one attempt each in PreCalculus, Physics I, and the challenging Physics II course, which is rarely offered at the high school level. All of these attempts were successful, exceeding the national pass rates of 81%, 66%, and 72% respectively.

In Chemistry, three students took the exam after only one year of study, rather than the usual two-year sequence. Despite this condensed timeline, they achieved a 66% pass rate. For AP Biology and AP Environmental Science, two students each attempted the tests, achieving a 50% pass rate on both, compared to national averages of 71% and 69%.
High Participation and Community Support
The school saw a high level of student participation, with a 60% ratio of tests taken to students enrolled in grades 9 through 12. In fact, the school achieved nearly one AP test passed for every two students enrolled. This success was further supported by the generosity of St. Francis Catholic Academy, which facilitated an incoming transfer student’s ability to continue AP Physics through online courses with a Cornerstone professor.
A Legacy of Academic Excellence
Cornerstone Academy has been serving the Gainesville community for 26 years under the leadership of Headmaster Jaime Cline, a respected science teacher with a strong background in education. The school follows a historically classical approach to Christian education, emphasizing critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, and persuasive communication—skills that align well with the demands of AP coursework.
By fostering a culture of academic rigor and intellectual curiosity, Cornerstone Academy continues to prepare its students for success in college and beyond. The school’s commitment to excellence is evident in its consistently strong AP results and the dedication of its faculty and students.
