Uncovering a Fake Embassy in Ghaziabad
In a significant operation, the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has uncovered a fake embassy operating in Ghaziabad. The agency arrested a man who was running this “consulate” while falsely claiming to be a diplomat from a non-existent country called “West Arctica.” This revelation came from a senior official on Wednesday.
The accused, Harsh Vardhan Jain, is a resident of Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad and was apprehended on Tuesday. According to the STF’s Noida unit, initial investigations suggest that Jain was involved in facilitating deals by promising job placements for individuals and companies in foreign countries. He also allegedly ran a hawala racket through shell companies.
To further deceive people, Jain used morphed photos that showed him with prominent figures such as the prime minister, the president, and other dignitaries. These tactics were part of his elaborate scheme to gain trust and credibility.
Additional Director General of Police Amitabh Yash stated that the accused was operating the fake embassy from a rented house. He presented himself as a consul or ambassador of non-existent countries like West Arctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia. Jain was seen driving vehicles with fake diplomatic number plates, adding to the illusion of legitimacy.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Jain had past connections with controversial godman Chandraswami and international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. In 2011, he was involved in a case related to the recovery of an illegal satellite phone.
Following his arrest, the STF seized several items including four vehicles with fake diplomatic number plates, 12 forged diplomatic passports from so-called micronations, fake documents stamped with the seal of the Ministry of External Affairs, two forged PAN cards, 34 rubber stamps of various countries and companies, and two fake press cards.
Additionally, the agency recovered Rs 44.7 lakh in cash, foreign currency, documents related to multiple companies, and 18 fake diplomatic number plates. An FIR has been registered at the Kavi Nagar police station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
This case highlights the importance of vigilance and thorough investigation in identifying and dismantling fraudulent operations. The STF’s efforts have not only exposed a significant scam but also brought justice to those who may have fallen victim to Jain’s deceptive practices. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover any additional links and ensure that all involved are held accountable for their actions.
