CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Conway police sergeant was severely injured in a house fire at his Aynor home.
Chris Johnson, who also spent 10 years as an active volunteer with Horry County Fire Rescue is receiving “urgent medical care” at an area hospital.
“The weight of this loss—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—is almost unimaginable. SGT Johnson has always stood strong for others, leading with courage, compassion, and dedication,” Stefani Critelli of the Conway Police Department said in a
GoFundMe page
set up to help Johnson’s family.
Johnson’s daughter said in a Facebook post her father sustained burns over more than 50% of his body and is on a ventilator in intensive care.
As of Sunday afternoon, it raised more than $9,000 of its $11,000 goal.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a two-alarm call in the 4000 block of Good Luck Road in Aynor at 7 p.m. Saturday. One person was transported to a hospital with injuries and three others displaced, the agency said in a Facebook post.
The post did not indicate whether Johnson was the person injured, but comments underneath it referred to him by name.
