Meeting Between CEHA Alliance and Energy Commission Highlights Collaboration for Energy Efficiency
Executives from the Consumer Electronics and Home Appliances (CEHA) Alliance in Ghana recently visited the Energy Commission to engage with its leadership. The meeting took place in Accra and was an opportunity for the association to formally introduce itself to the new Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Eunice Biritwum.
During the visit, Mrs. Biritwum welcomed the delegation and expressed her enthusiasm about working with such a key stakeholder in the energy sector. She outlined several initiatives that the Energy Commission is currently implementing to improve energy efficiency across the country. These efforts are aimed at promoting sustainable energy use and ensuring that electrical appliances meet high standards of performance and safety.
Nii Ayi Hyde, President of the CEHA Alliance, extended the association’s best wishes to Mrs. Biritwum and reaffirmed the alliance’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s work in regulating the consumer electronics and home appliance market. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry stakeholders and regulatory bodies to achieve common goals.
Mr. Hyde was accompanied by Ramesh Sadhwani, Advisor to the Executive Committee of the CEHA Alliance, and Jerry Halm, the Alliance’s Executive Secretary. In addition, representatives from major electronics importers, including Hisense, Samsung, Pearl, and Binatone, were also present during the meeting.
The Energy Commission was represented by senior officials from its Energy Efficiency Regulations team. Key attendees included Assistant Manager Hubert Nsor Zan, Manager Richard Donkor, and Deputy Director Kennedy Amankwa. Their presence underscored the Commission’s interest in engaging with the private sector to advance energy efficiency policies.
The CEHA Alliance, which was officially registered in October 2023, serves as a trade association representing leading importers and dealers of consumer electronics and home appliances in Ghana. Its members play a vital role in shaping the market and ensuring that products meet local and international standards.
Through this meeting, both the CEHA Alliance and the Energy Commission have taken a significant step toward fostering stronger partnerships. By aligning their objectives, they aim to promote responsible consumption, reduce energy waste, and support the development of a more sustainable energy landscape in the country.
This collaboration highlights the growing recognition of the need for coordinated efforts between industry and government to address energy challenges. As the CEHA Alliance continues to grow and expand its influence, its partnership with the Energy Commission will likely play a crucial role in driving positive change in the sector.
With the increasing demand for electronic devices and home appliances, it is essential to ensure that these products are not only efficient but also environmentally friendly. The CEHA Alliance and the Energy Commission are well-positioned to lead this transformation by setting clear guidelines and encouraging compliance among manufacturers and retailers.
Looking ahead, the alliance and the Commission are expected to explore further opportunities for cooperation, including joint awareness campaigns, training programs, and policy development initiatives. These steps will help build a more resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem in Ghana.
