Indianapolis Colts 3rd-year quarterback Anthony Richardsonstated that he has reduced his weight to approximately 240 pounds to become ‘more agile and lighter on his feet’ for the upcoming seasonvia WishNews8’s Angela Moryan):
Two off-seasons ago, Richardson increased his weight to approximately 250 pounds., but he had previously mentioned that he was approximately 10 pounds lighter compared to his previous playing weight at the University of Florida.
Not only might losing some weight enhance Richardson’s already outstanding quarterback speed, but it could also increase his flexibility—something that would be particularly beneficial for a young player who has had trouble staying available because of injuries.
To start camp, Richardson has no limitations on throwing—however, he will be under an initial ‘pitch count,’ and is still sharing practice time with top competitor Daniel Jones for the Colts’ starting quarterback position. He valued the support from the Horseshoe loyalists on ‘Day 1’ of training.
He’s simply aiming to be the quarterback that the Colts desire and require him to be.
If Richardson genuinely finds his footing during his third professional training camp, there shouldn’t be much of a quarterback competition—since he possesses top-tier physical attributes that few others in the league have.
Only time will reveal if a more streamlined Richardson is an improved version of himself, once everything has been said and done, and training camp ends in a few weeks.
