CM Maryam Advocates for Children in Gaza and Kashmir

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in a heartfelt message on the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, expressed deep sorrow over the suffering of millions of children in Palestine and Indian Illegally-occupied Kashmir (IIOJK), describing them as tragic victims of Israeli and Indian aggression.

‘When the innocent smiles of children turn into sighs and sobs, it shakes the conscience of humanity,’ the chief minister said, reflecting on the global indifference to the plight of children caught in conflict zones.

She lamented the devastation in Gaza, where thousands of children have been killed or buried under the rubble of bombed buildings. ‘The small bodies lying beneath the ruins are a chilling testament to the world’s silence in the face of Israeli brutality,’ she said.

Highlighting the situation in Kashmir, Maryam Nawaz said that the region is filled with ‘the unending sobs of children whose voices have been silenced forever’ by violence and occupation. The chief minister denounced the broader global pattern in which children are subjected to aggression not only during wartime but also in times of peace. ‘This ongoing human tragedy speaks volumes about the darker side of human history,’ she remarked.

Turning to local efforts, Maryam Nawaz announced that the Punjab government is committed to protecting children from all forms of exploitation and violence. ‘For the first time in Pakistan, the Punjab provincial cabinet has approved a comprehensive Child Protection Policy,’ she revealed. She added that every institution, law, and initiative of the provincial government is being aligned to safeguard the rights and welfare of children. ‘A society that cannot provide peace and safety to its children cannot hope to achieve sustainable peace,’ she emphasized.

The chief minister reaffirmed her government’s resolve to stand up for the innocent, voiceless victims of aggression, both abroad and at home.
