Weekly Pet Column: Discover Adoptable Pets in the Jacksonville Area
Every week, the Florida Times-Union highlights pets available for adoption at local government-run animal shelters. These animals are looking for loving families who can provide them with a second chance at a happy life. Below is a list of some of the adorable and unique pets currently waiting for their forever homes.
St. Johns County Pet Center
Located at 130 N. Stratton Road in St. Augustine, the St. Johns County Pet Center offers a variety of adoptable pets. Blue is a 2-year-old female American pit bull terrier mix (ID No. 78517). She is sweet, loyal, and playful, with a zest for life. Blue gets along well with children, dogs, and cats. Although she is heartworm-positive, she can recover fully with proper care.
Maverick is an adult male domestic shorthair cat (ID No. 78830). He is friendly, independent, and sociable. Maverick loves adventures, exploring, and making friends with everyone he meets. He enjoys warm spots in the sun and likes to be scratched behind the ears.

Honey Dumpling is a 2-year-old, 44-pound male mixed-breed dog (ID No. A1469273). He is as sweet as can be and loves playing fetch, especially with tennis balls. He also enjoys long walks in the park or on the beach.
Cherrio is a 1½-year-old, 8-pound male domestic shorthair cat (ID No. A1469841). He is mild-mannered and prefers a slower pace of life. Cherrio is available for adoption at the Regency PetSmart, located at 356 Monument Road in Jacksonville.
Nassau County Animal Services

Seahawk Sophie is an almost 11-year-old, female mixed-breed dog (ID No. 33744281). She is gentle and has a soft heart. She needs a quiet space and a warm place to spend her golden years. Senior dogs often go overlooked but have so much love to give.
Amber Pup is a 3-year-old female mixed-breed dog (ID No. 58802604). She is sweet and patiently waiting for a second chance. Amber Pup is looking for a family to call her own.

Toucan is a 2-month-old, 3-pound female domestic shorthair cat (ID No. A0058548847). She is curious, playful, silly, and full of spunk. Toucan is always ready to pounce on a toy, chase a shadow, or investigate a sound. She has a big personality.

Jennay, a 5-year-old female, and Ridge, a 3-year-old male, are mixed-breed dogs (ID numbers unavailable). Both are clean and housebroken. They get along well with cats and other dogs and walk well on a leash. They are both looking for a loving home.
