Reflecting on returning to the city where she spent her younger years, Pirrie, famous for her performances in “The Queen’s Gambit” and “The Crown,” remarked, ‘I have relatives there whom I haven’t visited in some time, so it was wonderful to reconnect and spend quality time together.’
‘A relative showed up to set – this was something new for me. Such gestures are truly precious.’
The actress shared how she and her Scottish co-stars demonstrated their expertise in using the profanities included in the script.
She quipped, “We’re simply proficient at it. It’s akin to a national pastime.”
The new show features Pirrie alongside Matthew Goode from “Downton Abbey,” Shirley Henderson known for her roles in “Harry Potter” and “Bridget Jones,” Kelly Macdonald who starred in “Trainspotting,” and Kate Dickie from “Game of Thrones.”
Nevertheless, even after spending six months in Edinburgh, Pirrie admitted she did not get the chance to unwind and socialize with them.
On the red carpet at the event’s debut in London, she commented, “I wasn’t able to mingle with others as much as I might have wished since my timetable was quite out of sync with everybody else’s.”
Adapted from a sequence of novels penned by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, this series centers around Goode’s portrayal of Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck. He establishes a division dedicated to solving old cases while grappling with remorse stemming from an event where a junior police officer was killed and another was paralyzed.
When Goode’s character assembles his team, he finds himself working alongside the inexperienced assistant Akram Salim, portrayed by the Swedish actor Alexej Manvelov, despite some reservations.
While Pirrie may have had difficulty socializing, the opposite was true for Goode and Manvelov.
During an interview to publicize the show, Goode mentioned that he and Manvelov spent time together because many of the locally raised actors chose not to remain in Edinburgh.
He stated, “The majority of the actors resided in Glasgow. Only I and Alexej were based in Edinburgh.” Describing their bond formation, he mentioned that he asked Manvelov to join him at a French restaurant on their second day in the city.
He commented, “We had lunch and ended up staying for about five hours after consuming around six bottles of red wine. Building friendships outside of filming can significantly enhance our chemistry on camera.”
