A Magical Experience at Four Mile Historic Park
Four Mile Historic Park is set to host its 3rd annual Bright Nights Lantern Festival, offering a unique and enchanting experience for visitors. This event spans approximately 10 weeks and covers 12 acres of the park, making it a major attraction in the area. Each year, the festival features an entirely new display, ensuring that every visit is a fresh adventure.
“Everything is different this year. If you’ve come last year or the year before, you’re not going to see anything you’ve seen before,” said Kayla Amos, Marketing and Events Manager at Four Mile Historic Park. The festival’s ever-changing nature keeps it exciting for both first-time attendees and returning guests.
The lanterns at Bright Nights are large-scale metal frames covered in silk canvas and illuminated from within. Many of these structures are designed to move, adding an extra layer of visual interest. In addition, there is a dedicated section of interactive displays that engage visitors with hands-on experiences.
“Some of them are so large you can walk through them. Some of them are games. There’s a whole area in the back of games. One’s a portal to a show that’s happening in Baltimore, so we can see them and they can see us,” Amos explained. This innovative approach allows for a dynamic and immersive environment that appeals to all ages.
The lanterns are created by Tianya Arts & Culture, a U.S.-based subsidiary of a Chinese company. Their mission is to blend ancient techniques with modern technology, resulting in stunning and intricate designs. These lantern festivals are often organized in collaboration with various organizations across the country, bringing cultural and artistic experiences to different communities.
“This year, we have two themes. The first one is Chinese Dreamland, which is a nod to the company Tianyu who creates these wonderful lanterns. The second theme is Farm Flora and Fauna, so you’re going to see things like giant fairies, 9-tailed foxes right next to a giant barn that’s so big you walk through,” Amos shared. The combination of traditional and contemporary elements creates a visually captivating display that tells a story through art.
