The final instalment of a swinger series saw one couple’s journey come to a dramatic end as they left the retreat, admitting “I really can’t do this”.
Channel 4’s Open House: The Great Sex Experiment invites couples to a luxury retreat with the aim of opening up their relationships and exploring sexual encounters. Airing every Friday, the programme hasn’t shied away from showing explicit scenes.

Having hit screens last month, the third series wrapped up tonight (June 27). And there was no shortage of drama as one couple made an early exit from the retreat after one woman tearfully confessed they “can’t do it”.

Previous episodes introduced fans to Sharmayne and Jamie from Essex, who were hoping to open up their relationship for the first time. But last week, Sharmayne confessed she was feeling “uncomfortable” and expressed a desire to “want to go home”.
Despite nearly leaving, this week saw them give it another try as they invited residents Mark and Jen to join them in the hot tub. Sharmayne voiced her concerns, questioning whether opening up their relationship “should’ve stayed a fantasy.”, reports

Choosing not to take the plunge, they decided to retreat to their own rooms, with Sharmayne admitting she felt “overwhelmed”.
After seeking advice from coach Effy Blue, Sharmayne revealed she was “struggling”, while partner Jamie also expressed concern about her comfort levels. After reassuring the pair that their feelings were “normal”, Effy set them a new challenge.
Later scenes showed them engaging in a flirty game around the pool with the other guests, before asking Jen and Mark to a more secluded spot, hoping to deepen their intimate connections.
However, when asked about their expectations, Sharmayne and Jamie chose to retreat back to their room, with Sharmayne visibly upset and wiping away tears. The stay-at-home mum confessed: “I really can’t do this.”
They soon start packing their bags, deciding to leave the retreat as Sharmayne reflected: “I think this whole experience has been an emotional rollercoaster, however I’m glad that we’ve done it because I think we’ve got a lot to take away.”
By the episode’s end, it was revealed that since filming, Sharmayne and Jamie are still open to exploring their relationship further, but “are still yet to take the leap.”
Series three kicked off with a bang last month and has been a hit with viewers, despite some admitting they “can’t watch” all of it and labelling it as “astonishing”. In a previous exclusive chat with Reach PLC’s Screen Time team, sex expert Effy Blue confirmed everything fans see on screen is genuine.
She stated: “Oh it’s very real and I think it’s so important that it’s real because we don’t really see real sex anywhere. ”
However, she was taken aback by the extent of the show’s risqué content that made it to air, as she confessed: “I didn’t know how much was going to be shown, it’s not up to me, but now seeing it we are pushing some boundaries and good for us.
“”Yay for real people having real sex on TV. “.
