Crackdown on Vehicle Theft and Illegal Activities in Chandigarh
Chandigarh police have made significant progress in tackling vehicle theft and illegal activities in the region. Over the past week, a special drive was launched by the crime branch to target vehicle theft cases. As a result, six individuals involved in auto-lifting were arrested, and 14 two-wheelers were recovered.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Jaswir Singh, the operation led to the recovery of 14 two-wheelers, including eight scooters and six bikes. Out of these, eight vehicles have been identified as stolen. The remaining six are under investigation to determine their rightful owners. SP Singh emphasized that none of the accused had any documents proving ownership of the vehicles, leading authorities to classify them as stolen as well.
The vehicles were reported stolen from different parts of Chandigarh. The police are working diligently to trace the remaining six. SP Singh also revealed that all six accused have prior criminal records and are known to consume drugs. This information highlights the need for continued vigilance against such criminal elements.
Joint Operation Leads to Smuggler’s Arrest
In another significant development, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police conducted a joint operation near Miyawali Chowk in the Khemkaran area of Tarn Taran district. A smuggler was apprehended along with a pistol and magazine. The accused is a resident of Miyawali village and is currently in the custody of the local police station.
Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to uncover any potential links between the accused and illegal cross-border activities. The possession of a firearm raises concerns about national security, and the operation showcases the dedication and professionalism of both the BSF and Punjab Police in safeguarding the nation’s borders.
Foiling a Terror Plot with Intelligence-Driven Action
In a separate intelligence-driven operation, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab successfully thwarted a major terror plot. The operation targeted Harwinder Rinda, a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative based in Pakistan and supported by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Using critical information, the AGTF team intercepted weapons intended for Rinda’s associates.
During the operation, two AK-47 rifles, 16 bullets, two magazines, and two hand grenades were recovered from a forest in Gurdaspur. These weapons were prevented from reaching their intended recipients, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in countering terrorism.
Ongoing Efforts to Maintain Public Safety
The recent arrests and operations demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies in maintaining public safety and preventing criminal activities. With continued efforts, authorities aim to reduce crime rates and ensure a secure environment for residents.
These actions reflect the importance of collaboration between different law enforcement bodies and the use of intelligence to address emerging threats. As investigations continue, more information is expected to come to light, further strengthening the fight against crime and terrorism in the region.
