Twenty-five years following Carrie and Aidanfirst met on Sex and the City, the contentious pair may be finished — for good, this time.
In the episode aired on July 24 ofAnd Just Like That Season 3, the ongoing conflicts between the two reach a breaking point when Aidan questions Carrie’s attractive writer neighbor, Duncan, despite her earlier request for him to stay away. Later, Aidan tries to disrupt Carrie and Duncan’s writing meeting by urging her to take a break for dinner — and when she returns home late, he tells her to stop cuddling and take a shower to remove the smell of Duncan’s pipe.
Obviously, it’s not really about the smoke.The following morning, Carrie addresses Aidan regarding his involvement and comes to understand that he still struggles with trust issues related to her.affair with Mr. Big.It ends with a stressful discussion on a city street, where Carrie states: “How can it be that I haven’t gained your trust yet? I have done everything to demonstrate how dedicated I am to you… I have accepted conditions that even you weren’t able to follow. I was completely committed.”

When Aidan asks her about speaking in the past tense, she confirms: Shewas All in. She’s no longer that way. “I can’t offer you anything more than I already have, and it wasn’t sufficient,” she states, noting that Aidan’s family circumstances have not been helpful.
Aidan states he requires 100%, and Carrie expresses the same.
A Musical Message
“I truly believed we were going to make it this time,” Aidan says. The two embrace when (just in case you weren’t certain they were)really done) Taylor Swift’s “How Did It End?”begins playing. The devastating Tortured Poets Department song focuses on the conclusion of a relationship that was never meant to last.
And its lyrics — which accompany a sequence showing Carrie removing her postcards from Aidan, snuggling Shoe, and heading out for a girls’ night — give a sense of closure to Carrie and Aidan: “Our illnesses were such that we could not heal them, and so a touch that was my birthright became unfamiliar,” Swift sings.
Or as Carrie (always the troubled poet) states in the voiceover from her book at the conclusion of the episode, “The woman had believed that she and her love were very present, but now understood they were still trapped in the past — which meant, naturally, that they had no future.”
Old Habits
Although the painful breakup occurred, the last scene brings a sense of optimism, with Carrie reconnecting with her friends, reminiscent of the moment she and Aidan broke up outside Charlotte’s wedding, when she sought solace from the girls. “It’s challenging to find people who will love you unconditionally,” she remarked then. “I was fortunate to find three of them.”

However, intriguingly, the latest filming photos featuring Sarah Jessica Parker and John Corbett show their break-up conversation.
It’s definitely possible that Aidan comes back in some form, of course. But if you’reTeam Anyone-But-Aidan,there is cause for optimism that this could indeed be the end.
