Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Leviswill be absent from the 2025-26 regular season as he is scheduled to have shoulder surgery later this month. This creates an opportunity for the No. 1 overall selectionCam Wardto assume the role of the team’s starting quarterback.
Levis, selected by Tennessee in the second round of the 2023 draft, played in 12 games for the team last season. However, he will now be out of action for the near future. Ward has commented on his teammate’s injury following questions about his response to the news regarding his fellow quarterback.
“I didn’t really have a reaction. I focused on Cam Ward,” said the Titans’ first-round draft pick.saidHe did what was best for himself. It’s impossible to be angry at someone for doing what’s best for them. I hope he recovers quickly.
I’m looking forward to seeing him on the field more. He joined me during OTAs, studying the system thoroughly. He’s a talented football player. Once he’s prepared and in good health, he’ll get a chance to play.
Levis started the previous season as the Titans’ permanent starting quarterback for the first time in his career. Levis faced challenges at the beginning of the season. The Titans recorded a 1-4 record in their initial five games of the 2024 season, and Levis threw seven interceptions, while throwing only five touchdowns.
In the meantime, Ward joins the league under high expectations. As the top overall selection, these expectations come from both inside and outside the organization. Due to Levis’ injury, Ward will be required to deliver strong performance right from the start—just as he has consistently done throughout his career.
In college, Ward concluded his single season atMiamiHaving accounted for 43 touchdowns (39 through the air) along with 4,313 passing yards, he concluded the season with the top QBR (88.8) in the nation. In the 12 games where he played all four quarters, Ward achieved 300 or more yards in 10 of those contests.
He made several other stops during his college football path before joining Mario Cristobal’s team in Coral Gables. He started his career at Incarnate Word, competing at the FCS level, where he passed for almost 7,000 yards and accounted for 61 touchdowns in his first two seasons there before moving on toWashington Statebefore the 2022 college football season.
Those chances seem to have equipped Ward for the attention that comes with playing in the NFL. With a straightforward route to becoming the Titans’ starting quarterback, all indicators suggest Ward will be the Week 1 starter for Tennessee when they face the Denver Broncos away on September 7.
