  • A woman was called out by her cousin’s bridal party and later Reddit users after wearing a white chiffon dress to the wedding
  • The woman claimed she was under the impression after looking at the wedding’s Pinterest board of “whites, blues, and natural hues” that her dress was within the theme
  • “Did you read the description?” a Reddit forum user asked

A wedding guest claims she was bullied by her cousin’s bridesmaids after choosing to wear a white dress to the wedding.

The woman took to the Two Hot Takes
Reddit forum
to share that she received an invitation to her cousin’s upscale summer wedding in the Hamptons, N.Y., and she might have committed one of the biggest faux pas when she arrived.

The wedding invitation provided guests with a Pinterest board for the special occasion that stated the theme was “whites, blues, and natural hues.” The point of the Pinterest board was to provide guests with the “vibe” of the event, the woman wrote.

“I glanced at the Pinterest board and as you could expect, a very beachy Hamptons wedding,” the woman wrote of what she found.

She said she then went in search of a dress for the occasion and found a “beautiful, beachy, flowy white chiffon maxi dress,” which she later clarified was a $120 number from
Lulus
.

The day of the wedding came, and the woman and her family, who were all dressed in blue, arrived at the ceremony. She said they sat in the last few pews. After the ceremony ended, the guests were escorted outside to a cocktail hour, but this is when the woman said she became self-conscious — because it became abundantly clear that she was the only guest wearing white.

Soon the bridesmaids and maid of honor came to her to discuss her choice of wedding attire.

“Her maid of honor was telling me how it was disrespectful I wore all white and to ‘read the room,’” the woman said of their conversation. “I told her I ‘read the invite’ and clearly stated that the theme was ‘whites, blues, and natural hues.’”

The woman admitted she should have known better, despite the Pinterest board leading her to believe that it would be okay.

One of the bridesmaids, she claimed, posted a photo to her Instagram Stories of the woman taking a mirror photo, captioning it, “Every wedding has that one guest haha.”

The woman expressed doubts of her own for her style choice, asked Reddit for thoughts on the situation. She admitted she hadn’t spoken with the bride yet and asked if there was a need for her to apologize.

“Girl, the website suggests a veil to complete the look. This seems to be more like a simple wedding dress vs. a guest dress,” wrote one Reddit user. “Yes you messed up, just apologize and learn from this.”

“Did you read the description?” asked another user before quoting the description. “Gliding down the aisle……..”

“The title here really should be ‘I wore a wedding dress to my cousin’s wedding’ because it’s clear that wasn’t meant to be just any white dress when you look at the reviews or description,” another user pointed out.

The woman
wrote an update
to the post, admitting that her cousin’s wedding was only the second wedding she’d ever attended; the last was when she was 8 years old. She admitted she never read the description of the dress and that she wished her parents had pointed out she was in the wrong.

“I truly thought it was okay to wear white to a wedding when it was in the dress code,” she wrote in the update.

The woman ended up apologizing to her cousin over a text message, telling her it was an honest mistake and that she thought she was following the dress code.

“She told me she can understand how the code was misleading but she didn’t think anyone would take it literal,” the woman added of her cousin’s response.

The woman claimed her cousin didn’t even notice her all-white attire until the bridesmaids approached her. “I still kinda blended in.”

“I told my cousin she’s more than welcome to wear white as revenge if she wants lol,” the woman said of her conversation with her cousin. “Should I wear THE WHITE DRESS to my future wedding?”
