Bono YEA Sends 600 Youth Abroad via ‘Work Abroad’ Initiative

Expanding Opportunities for Youth Through International Employment Programs

The YEA (Youth Employment Agency) in the Bono Region has made significant strides in providing young people with opportunities to work abroad, contributing to both economic growth and international relations. According to Mr. Mustapha Omar Copson, the Bono Regional Director of the YEA, the agency has successfully exported 600 young individuals from the region to Romania under the government’s “Work Abroad” programme.

Success Stories and Beneficiaries

The initial beneficiaries of the programme were primarily artisanal workers and those in the hospitality sector. These individuals have been well integrated into the Romanian workforce, showcasing the effectiveness of the initiative. The programme not only provides employment but also ensures that participants receive essential support such as training, accommodation, and proper documentation.

Mr. Copson emphasized that the programme is designed to benefit various sectors, including artisanal work, hospitality, agriculture, construction, and transportation. By exposing participants to international opportunities, the programme helps them gain valuable experiences that can be applied back home.

New Opportunities in the United Arab Emirates

In addition to the success in Romania, the government has secured new opportunities for young women in the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Copson urged the youth to register with the YEA to take advantage of these emerging prospects. This initiative highlights the agency’s commitment to creating diverse employment avenues for the younger generation.

Support Services Provided by the YEA

Under the “Work Abroad” programme, the YEA offers comprehensive support to its beneficiaries. This includes screening processes, free training, feeding, and accommodation. The agency also assists with proper documentation and other empowerment measures to ensure that participants are well-prepared for their roles abroad.

The programme aims to provide not just employment but also a pathway to financial stability. Mr. Copson noted that participants earn decent incomes and often return home to create job opportunities for others. This dual benefit contributes to poverty reduction and job creation within the region.

Strengthening International Relations

Beyond individual benefits, the programme plays a crucial role in strengthening Ghana’s bilateral relations with other countries. By facilitating international employment, the YEA helps improve diplomatic ties and fosters collaboration between nations.

Addressing Irregular Migration

In addition to the “Work Abroad” programme, the YEA is collaborating with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) to address the growing issue of irregular migration in the region. Mr. Copson explained that the agency plans to organize a summit to identify and tackle the root causes of irregular migration.

He highlighted that unemployment is a significant factor contributing to irregular migration among the youth. To combat this, the YEA is focused on creating more opportunities for young people to find stable employment locally.

Safety and Awareness

Mr. Copson stressed the importance of addressing the dangers associated with irregular migration. He pointed out the risks that migrants face, especially during their journeys across the high seas. The YEA is committed to finding solutions to bring this situation under control and protect the youth from harm.

By offering structured employment opportunities and addressing the underlying causes of migration, the YEA is making a meaningful impact on the lives of young people in the Bono Region. The agency continues to work towards sustainable development and improved livelihoods for the community.
