BMW’s contemporary designs have certainly sparked mixed reactions, particularly due to their striking, unabashed, and occasionally massive grilles.
However, for those who do not agree with the present situation, there may be positive developments ahead.
BMW plans to introduce an entirely new design language throughout all its models of cars and SUVs.
You’ve already caught strong indications of it in the
Neue Klasse Concept
coupe-style sedan along with its X-branded SUV equivalent.
As we all know, these design studies will serve as the foundation for an entirely new lineup of electric cars constructed using a cutting-edge electric-priority platform. The series will kick off with the newly introduced 3-Series Electric and iX3 Electric models.
However, it seems that BMW’s range of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (ICE) will also undergo redesigns to align with the ‘Neue Klasse’ design philosophy.

indicates that BMW plans to “thoroughly revamp” its present internal combustion engine lineup, beginning with substantial modifications to the current 5-Series model. Additionally, redesigns and considerable enhancements are planned across the entire BMW series, including models ranging from the 2 Series to the X5 and 7 Series.
Adrian van Hoondijk, BMW’s design chief, informed the UK-based magazine that these modifications were essential because the company did not wish for the new-generation vehicles to render the present models seem outdated like those from earlier generations.
“We are committed to ensuring that the design language we are currently developing—and which will debut later this year at the IAA with our initial Neue Klasse models—will eventually be implemented across our full range of products, without excluding any vehicle,” Van Hoondijk stated to Autocar.
Absolutely, it wouldn’t benefit us or our clients if we introduced a modern version of BMW alongside a traditional one. We plan to evolve the appearance and overall experience of the BMW brand.
Notably, earlier global media reports indicated that ICE vehicles would remain based on the existing ‘KLAR’ platform, whereas their electric counterparts—which would have nearly identical designs—would utilize the new EV architecture.
Nonetheless, recent intelligence indicates that the upcoming models like the 3 Series will feature their internal combustion engine variants constructed using an updated version of the electric vehicle platform. In contrast, revised editions of current offerings, for example, the refreshed 5 Series, will continue utilizing the KLAR platform.
