Bison Defends Against Wolf Attack in Yellowstone

It is often claimed that strength lies in numbers, yet this group of wolves discovered through experience that this isn’t always true.

Extraordinary video captured at Yellowstone National Park by a team of travelers withJackson Hole EcoToursdisplays a section of the Jackson Butte wolf pack pursuing bison for nearly two hours within Yellowstone’s Northern Range.

As mentioned in a post featuring a lengthy video of the chase, “the group initially attempted to isolate the young bison, but the adult members consistently gathered and pushed them away repeatedly.”

After failing to catch the bison calves, the wolves “turned their focus toward some of the exhausted and separated adult bison.”

But the wolves had no success there either, particularly when facing a tired bison.

A second video captures the events toward the end of the chase, as the tired bison seems to kick a wolf in the jaw. The wolf is visible limping off in discomfort, and the hunt concludes with great exhaustion.

Billy Fabian, a guide at Yellowstone National Park, shared on Instagram, “it took some time for the wolf that received the kick to recover, and it might still have a broken jaw or other injuries.”

The guide mentioned that “the bison succeeded in escaping to live another day.”

That’s nature.
