A man with physical disabilities, whose identity is still being verified, passed away in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, while soliciting for alms on Tuesday.
The pauper was recognized for seeking charity at Cherubim intersection on the bustling Wethedral Road, Owerri.
Sources mentioned that people who witnessed the beggar lying on the road mistakenly believed he was asleep and did not assist him right away.

Nevertheless, following the long sleep, people who passed by observed that he was not moving, with his eyes in an unusual position, and attempted to wake him without success.
They subsequently informed the Health Department about the situation and organized for the body to be transferred from the road.
It became known that shopkeepers near Cherubim Junction had to provide funds for health officials to relocate his body in order for them to conduct business.
A comedian from Owerri, Ogechi Duruji, widely recognized as MC Duke on his Facebook page, posted, “I found out the beggar at Cherubim Junction passed away this morning. The people passing by thought he was just sleeping until this evening.”
Health workers were summoned to take him; they asked for ₦100,000 before taking his body, or to wait four days. Those present paid the amount before his body was removed.
I also found out that he has a large sum of money on him, as well as a bank account.
His walking sticks are now placed on the ground. Nothing endures forever. May his soul find peace.
People who had gathered during the body’s removal expressed sorrow, stating that life is fleeting and that the man had been seen at that location begging for charity for many years.
Attempts to contact the police spokesperson for Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, for verification were unsuccessful as he did not answer the calls directed to his number.
