Bark River Parks upgrades build two safe, fun spaces for kids

New Playground Equipment Enhances Community Spaces in Delta and Menominee Counties

Kids in Delta and Menominee counties are now enjoying updated and improved playground facilities. The Heart of the North Lions Club recently held ribbon-cutting ceremonies to celebrate the enhancements made to Bark River Parks. These upgrades include modernized equipment at Highway Little Park, located across from Massie’s in downtown, as well as inclusive play areas near the Senior Center.

The new playground features spongy turf flooring, designed to be safe and accessible for children of all abilities. This addition ensures that every child can enjoy the park without concerns about safety or accessibility.

Jane Lanaville, the treasurer and a charter member of the Heart of the North Lions Club, highlighted the significant investment in this project. She mentioned that over $150,000 was allocated to bring these improvements to life. “We’ve had so much support from the community,” Lanaville said. “Rotary came. The Kiwanis came. We had contributions from the Sackerson Foundation, Dagenais Foundation, Riverside Auto. There are so many individuals and organizations that have helped us in some way, shape or form.”

The project has been in development for more than three years, reflecting the dedication and collaboration of local groups and individuals. The Lions Club worked closely with various community partners to ensure that the upgrades met the needs of both children and families in the area.

Community Support and Collaboration

The success of this project is a testament to the strong sense of community in the region. Local organizations such as Rotary and Kiwanis played an active role in supporting the initiative. This effort also highlights the importance of inclusive design in public parks. The installation of specialized equipment ensures that children with different abilities can play together, promoting social interaction and a sense of belonging. The use of soft, safe surfaces further enhances the experience for all users.

Ongoing Efforts and Future Plans

While the recent upgrades have already made a positive impact, the Heart of the North Lions Club remains focused on future projects. The club continues to seek partnerships and funding opportunities to maintain and expand community resources. Their goal is to create a lasting legacy of improvement and engagement for residents of all ages.

The work done in Bark River is just one example of how local efforts can lead to meaningful change. By bringing together volunteers, donors, and community leaders, the Lions Club has set a strong example for other organizations looking to make a difference.
