New Banksy Artwork Appears in London, Adding to the City’s Growing Collection
A new piece of art by the mysterious street artist Banksy has appeared in London, continuing a recent trend of unexpected installations across the city. This latest artwork features three monkeys swinging from a railway bridge in Brick Lane, following two other pieces that were discovered in South London just days before.
The first of these was an elephant silhouette painting near Kew Bridge in Richmond, and the second was a goat perched on top of a wall in Chelsea. These artworks have sparked excitement among fans and raised questions about their meanings.
Banksy confirmed the latest creation through an Instagram post, but he did not add any captions, leaving fans to speculate about its significance. The monkeys in the painting do not cover their eyes, ears, or mouths, which is different from the traditional Japanese proverb “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” This deviation from the usual symbolism has led to various interpretations.
The artwork was painted in black, located near a vintage clothing shop and a coffee house on a busy market street close to Shoreditch High Street. The location adds to the intrigue, as it is a popular area known for its artistic flair and cultural significance.
On Tuesday, Banksy shared another image on social media showing two elephant silhouettes with their trunks reaching toward each other in Chelsea. This followed a previous post on Monday featuring a goat balancing on a wall near Kew Bridge. The consistent theme of animals has captivated the public, with many fans expressing their enthusiasm online.
One fan commented: “Banks is clearly just making the Zoo in London right now.” Another added, “Didn’t disappoint, knew there’d be a day 3!” These remarks highlight the growing anticipation for Banksy’s next move.
The lack of captions on the recent posts has left fans questioning the meaning behind the artworks. Some believe the Chelsea elephant piece could be a reference to “elephants in the room,” suggesting a commentary on unspoken issues.
Josh Rendell, a councillor for Stanley ward in Kensington and Chelsea, expressed his excitement about the new installation. He mentioned that the area already has a Banksy artwork on Portobello Road and welcomed the artist’s return to Chelsea. However, since the artwork is on private property, the council is working to determine how they can protect it.
Footage captured by CCTV cameras showed the moment Banksy prepared to paint the Kew Bridge artwork. The video revealed a van with two men wearing orange high-vis clothing and helmets. One of them, who was masked, is believed to be Banksy. He was seen in the back of a cherry picker with a friend, engaged in conversation. The incident occurred around 5am, and the goat artwork appeared on the exterior wall of an engineering company near Kew Bridge that morning.
Boss & Co, the company that builds exclusive guns, noticed the new artwork upon arriving for work. An official from the company stated that they initially assumed it was a Banksy piece and later checked their security footage. They observed the two men and noted that they adjusted the security camera, after which they could not see them. The entire process lasted about half an hour.
These recent additions to London’s street art scene continue to generate buzz and curiosity. As fans eagerly await the next piece, the mystery surrounding Banksy’s identity and intentions remains as compelling as ever.
