Baja California Cracks Down on Crime in Mexicali with Joint Operation

Government of Baja California Takes Strong Action Against Violence and Crime

The government of Baja California, led by Governor Marina del Pilar, has continued to implement measures aimed at addressing the underlying causes of violence and enhancing public safety throughout the region. A recent coordinated operation in Mexicali, spanning from July 14 to 19, resulted in the immediate arrest of 31 individuals and the execution of three arrest warrants. Authorities also recovered a significant amount of illegal weapons, drugs, and vehicles linked to criminal activity.

Governor Marina del Pilar emphasized the administration’s dedication to combating violent crime through strategic collaboration and intelligence-based operations. “These results reflect our commitment to ensuring security for all residents through coordinated efforts,” she stated.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of Baja California’s Department of Citizen Security, working closely with federal and municipal agencies. During the initiative, law enforcement officers confiscated six firearms—three handguns and three rifles—as well as six magazines and 109 rounds of ammunition. This marks a significant step in reducing the availability of illegal weapons within the community.

In addition to the weapons, authorities recovered four stolen vehicles and impounded eight more that were associated with criminal activities. This brings the total number of vehicles secured during the operation to 12. These actions are part of a broader strategy to disrupt organized crime and prevent further criminal activity.

Combating Drug Trafficking at the Local Level

As part of the effort to curb street-level drug trafficking, the operation led to the seizure of substantial quantities of illicit substances. Approximately 7.4 kilograms of marijuana, 686 grams of methamphetamine, 270 grams of cocaine, 224 grams of heroin, and nearly 3 kilograms of fentanyl were confiscated. These seizures prevented dangerous drugs from being distributed among the population, contributing to safer communities.

General Leopoldo Tizoc Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, head of the state’s Department of Citizen Security, confirmed that all seized items were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for investigation and legal action. He also acknowledged the critical role of anonymous tips provided through the 089 hotline in identifying and addressing illegal activities. The general encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious behavior in a safe and confidential manner.

Ongoing Commitment to Public Safety

The success of this operation highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain order and ensure the well-being of Baja California’s citizens. Similar operations are planned across the state, with a focus on upholding the rule of law and protecting communities from criminal threats.

By combining intelligence-driven strategies, inter-agency cooperation, and public engagement, the administration is working to create a safer environment for all residents. Continued efforts will be necessary to sustain these positive outcomes and address emerging challenges related to crime and drug trafficking.

Through sustained action and community involvement, Baja California aims to build a future where public safety is a priority and the threat of violence is significantly reduced.
