Auxano Solar Achieves International Certification for Locally Assembled Solar Panels
Auxano Solar, a leading Nigerian solar panel company, has recently achieved a significant milestone by securing international certification for its locally assembled photovoltaic modules. This accomplishment marks a crucial step forward for Nigeria’s renewable energy sector and highlights the potential of local innovation when supported by the right resources.
The company announced that its solar panels have been certified under IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 standards by TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized testing and certification body. These certifications cover essential aspects such as quality, safety, and performance, ensuring that the products meet international benchmarks. The certification process was supported by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet in collaboration with the All On Hub, showcasing a strong partnership between local and global entities.
A Statement from Global Leadership
Caroline Eboumbou, the Chief Executive Officer of All On, emphasized the importance of this achievement. “Auxano Solar’s certification is a powerful demonstration of how local innovation, when supported with the right resources, can meet global standards and substantially support national development endeavors,” she said. She further added, “We are proud to have worked with GEAPP to support Auxano on this journey, which not only validates the quality of Nigerian-made solar technology but also strengthens the foundation for a more inclusive and sustainable energy future in Nigeria.”
A First for Nigeria
Auxano Solar is the first Nigerian company to receive TÜV certification for solar panels. This recognition could significantly expand its role in large-scale energy projects and open up new export opportunities. Chuks Umezulora, the CEO of Auxano Solar, expressed pride in being the first indigenous manufacturer to achieve this certification. “This certification marks a significant milestone in building trust in locally produced panels in Nigeria. We aspire for Nigerian solar panels to be as highly regarded as Nigerian cables. Achieving the IEC certifications is a testament to our dedication to quality and innovation in the solar energy sector,” he stated.
Umezulora added that this accomplishment would not only enhance the company’s market presence but also foster the development of the local solar energy value chain, making solar power more accessible and affordable for Nigerians.
Contribution to National Initiatives
The certification strengthens Auxano Solar’s position to contribute to government and donor-backed initiatives such as the Nigeria Electrification Project and the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up programme. These projects, supported by organizations like the World Bank, African Development Bank, GEAPP, the Rockefeller Foundation, and Sustainable Energy for All, aim to expand electricity access to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.
Expanding Reach and Impact
Auxano Solar has already distributed nearly 15 megawatts of solar panels in Nigeria and operates a 100-megawatt capacity solar panel assembly plant in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos. This scale of operations demonstrates the company’s commitment to driving growth in the renewable energy sector.
By achieving international certification, Auxano Solar is setting a precedent for other Nigerian companies looking to compete on the global stage. The success of this initiative not only benefits the company but also contributes to the broader goal of sustainable development and energy independence in Nigeria.
