Australian Governor-General Tours Bandaragama BeeVeda Initiative

Sri Lanka, August 12 – Australian Governor-General Samantha Joy Mosty toured the Bandaragama BeeVeda initiative, which was introduced by the EMACE Foundation in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Australian Aid.

The Australian Governor-General met with the female beneficiaries, known as the Queen Bees, for a honey extraction demonstration, learning firsthand about the project’s transformative impact and the opportunities it offers for skill development and understanding micro-business growth.

Under the Australian Aid initiative, numerous distinctive development programs are funded across Sri Lanka, with active involvement from the Australian High Commission’s team in Sri Lanka.

The BeeVeda Initiative stands as an impressive example of how a modest project can make a substantial difference in the lives and economic opportunities of rural women, offering more than 50 women bee boxes and tools to begin ethical beekeeping.

Headed by Emace Sri Lanka, the initiative supports sustainable livelihoods, economic empowerment of women, biodiversity, and global collaborations.

For Australia, backing BeeVeda contributes to global environmental well-being, food stability, and more resilient communities, which are essential for a balanced climate, sustainable economy, and a safer world.
