TOKYO – All Nippon Airways Co. said Saturday that it had canceled 95 of its domestic flights due to a software problem reportedly affecting thousands of Airbus SE planes worldwide.
With 34 of ANA’s A320 jets requiring a software fix, the cancellations impacted about 13,200 passengers, mostly using flights connecting Haneda airport in Tokyo and other parts of the country. Another six flights were canceled for Sunday, which is expected to affect about 530 people.
“We deeply apologize for the inconvenience this has caused to our customers,” the company said.
The software fix for the 34 aircraft will likely be completed by Sunday morning. The company initially estimated the repairs would take around four hours per jet, but in practice it took as short as two hours.
Japan Airlines Co., the other major Japanese carrier, said its fleet was unaffected.
Airbus said it had found that intense solar radiation could corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls, following reports of an incident in October in which a JetBlue A320 unexpectedly pitched downward.
