The Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, officially launched a 63MVA and 132/33KV mobile substation in Eleyele, within the Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The initiative was carried out by the FGN Power Company in partnership with Siemens Energy.
During the unveiling on Thursday, the minister stated that the new substation would increase the transmission wheeling capacity by 50.4MW, offering direct advantages to homes and commercial establishments in the region.
He emphasized that the new substation would also ensure a more dependable and effective power supply, resulting in better electricity availability for the residents.
The recipients include the households and commercial establishments in Apete, Ologuneru, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Sango, and Bodija, respectively.
The establishment of this mobile substation reflects our dedication to providing dependable and eco-friendly electricity to the residents of Oyo State and all Nigerians.
The initiative corresponds with the Federal Government’s plan to upgrade Nigeria’s energy sector and enhance the standard of living for our people. We are honored to be involved in this pioneering effort.
This portable power station, together with additional gear being set up during the Pilot Phase of the PPI, signifies a key initiative designed to enhance the transmission capacity by more than 1300MW throughout the country.

From the beginning, FGN Power Company has effectively installed, activated, and put into operation eight Power Transformers, adding 569.6MW to the transmission system. Additionally, five substations have been properly implemented, providing an extra 252MW.
Following today’s commissioning at Eleyele, an extra 50.4MW has been integrated, increasing the total to six mobile substations, which add another 302.4MW to the transmission system. A further mobile substation at the Federal University of Technology Owerri is nearing activation to supply 50.4MW, resulting in seven units with a cumulative contribution of 352.8MW.
The minister stated that these initiatives have led to a significant rise in the national grid’s transmission capacity, with 922.4MW added, including 569.6MW from Power Transformers and an extra 352.8MW from substations.
Previously, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FGN Power Company, Kenny Anuwe, stated that the company’s objective is to bridge infrastructure deficiencies by funding comprehensive solutions that will provide consistent, additional power to customers across Nigeria.
Additionally, the Head of Technical Services at Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Folasade Sanya, commended the government’s efforts in power generation and transmission.
