AC Unit Repaired at Onslow County Animal Services After Weekend Breakdown

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Employees and dogs at an Onslow County animal shelter are feeling more comfortable now that the air conditioning has been restored to its normal operation.

Approximately 20 dogs needed to be relocated from one kennel to another due to an interruption that began on Saturday, giving a fresh interpretation to the phrase “dog days of summer.”

Alexis Cameron is among several staff members who observed that one of the units was not functioning properly. She informed WITN that she contacted her supervisor and manager to develop a strategy.

I entered the place, and it was extremely humid,” said Cameron. “You could sense the walls were damp. It was really unpleasant.

The facility includes four dog enclosures, one of which is without air conditioning.

Staff moved swiftly, installing a big fan between every dog enclosure to ensure air movement.

Shelter manager Tyler Moore said to WITN that she hopes the animals will be back in the other kennels tomorrow.
