Date set for town centre makeover

A deadline has been established for the beginning of a multi-million-pound initiative to revitalize the town center, according to a local authority.

Harlow Council mentioned that the redevelopment of Market Square, the primary retail district in the Essex town, will begin in October and is anticipated to be completed by next spring.

The proposals have received a £23.7m contribution from the government’s Towns Fund and involve the creation of new bars, restaurants, shops, and residential properties.

“This goes beyond buildings and structures – it’s about rebuilding confidence, drawing in investments, generating employment, and providing our residents and visitors with a place they enjoy spending their time in,” said council leader Dan Swords.

The Conservative council member stated: “Once the building begins and the modifications become visible, individuals will realize that this is not a fantasy or an ambitious goal – it is occurring right now.”

The designs also involve a water display and an outdoor marketplace, along with the restoration of a clock.

It is included in a broader set, comprising a£15 million renovation of the town’s bus terminal, which is set to begin this month.

Elsewhere in the city, efforts toenhance the vicinity of the Playhouse Theatre will begin in September.
