Adrian Houser Achieves Uncommon Triumph in First Two Starts with Chicago White Sox

The initial feedback on the Chicago White Sox’s most recent free-agent acquisition has exceeded their expectations. Since joining with a one-year contract totaling $1.35 million, Adrian Houser has been nearly impeccable within the team’s starting rotation.

During his first appearance as part of the team on May 20, Houser threw six innings without conceding any runs, giving up only two hits, issuing three walks, and recording two strikeouts in their 1-0 victory against the Mariners. The 32-year-old right-handed pitcher continued this impressive performance on Monday when he faced the Mets, pitching another six innings free from scoring, permitting merely three hits along with striking out six batters and walking one.

That made Houser the fourth pitcher to throw six-plus scoreless innings in each of his first two starts with the White Sox. The other three to do so are Frank Baumann in 1960, Jack Lamabe in 1966 and Johnny Cueto in 2022, according to CHSN sideline reporter
Brooke Fletcher.

Houser started the 2025 season pitching for the Triple-A Round Rock Express, but he decided against renewing his contract and instead joined the White Sox. Prior to this, he spent one year with the Mets and seven seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, mostly as a starting pitcher.

Even though Houser had another scoreless outing in consecutive starts, he didn’t secure the victory for the White Sox on Monday. The team’s bats could muster only one run and four hits against the Mets’ pitchers. The lone run was scored via a sacrifice fly executed by Andrew Benintendi during the fourth inning. Miguel Vargas, Luis Robert Jr., and Edgar Quero accounted for the rest of the team’s hits.

As they handed the game over to their relief pitchers while holding a narrow 1-0 advantage, both Cam Booser and Steven Wilson conceded one earned run apiece, leading to the Chicago White Sox’ defeat with a score of 2-1. The decisive runs were driven home via sacrifice fly balls; Juan Soto delivered his in the top of the eighth inning, followed by Francisco Lindor’s contribution in the ninth.

Following this defeat, the White Sox drop to a 17-37 record before their 7:10 p.m. ET game on Tuesday in New York.
