The mayor of Nashville, Democrat Freddie O’Connell, has faced accusations from Representative Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) of “aiding and abetting” unlawful migration. Ogles declared he would launch an inquiry into the mayor due to his stance against ICE operations within the city.
O’Connell is set to be investigated by two federal committees, according to reports.

Ogles, who held the position of Mayor of Maury County, Tennessee, from 2018 to 2022, was accompanied by various Tennessee state officials and law enforcement representatives when he declared that both the Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees would initiate an inquiry into the current situation involving the mayor.

The investigation will center on the mayor’s conduct and whether federal money was possibly misappropriated in relation to suspected criminal acts linked to immigration issues.
At a press conference on Monday, Ogles stated: “I will not retreat. I will not yield. I will consistently support law enforcement.”
“I want to reclaim my community, and I want to restore my country,” he said additionally.
The question emerges due to escalating conflicts between community members and federal immigration authorities. Following O’Connell’s comments regarding a “combined security initiative” conducted in early May by ICE officers alongside the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Ogles advocated for an investigation into the mayor’s office.

As per a declaration made by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the mission led to 196 apprehensions.
The State Department claimed that the Nashville mayor supports “policies favorable to illegal activities.”
Nevertheless, O’Connell asserts that federal agencies have not presented “any evidence” indicating that those detained during the May operation had prior criminal records or criminal intentions. He also raised doubts about whether these individuals were afforded their constitutional right to due process.
