This boot camp isn’t merely focused on providing young Nigerians with technical abilities; it also aims at fostering an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to national service,” said Prince Audu. “Our objective is to develop a dedicated and skilled labor force capable of driving Nigeria’s industrial growth and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ambition of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

The Minister lauded the trainees’ discipline and commitment, encouraging them to become pioneers within their communities and advocates for the fresh push towards industrialization. Additionally, he recognized the exemplary guidance provided by MTI’s administration and educators, highlighting their role in making this program’s first run a success.

As acknowledgment for their involvement, every graduate was provided with an introductory kit designed to assist them as they kick-start their professions and enterprises in fields such as metalworking, welding, and fabrication.

At the event, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, was also present through his representative, Commissioner for Industry, Christine Udechukwu. They praised the ministry for tackling youth employment and fostering skills that address issues and generate prosperity.

Senator Patrick Ndubueze, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Steel, represented here by Chief Etiebat Nwachukwu, advocated for this program to be established as an annual undertaking supported legislatively. This would guarantee its ongoing presence and effectiveness in shaping Nigeria’s approach to developing its young people.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, highlighted that the boot camp was created not only as a training session but also as a springboard for aspirations and a conduit for nurturing future business leaders within the country’s metal sector. He recounted the motivational tale of a budding welder who has since become a significant employer, providing jobs to more than 150 individuals and exporting goods across three West African nations. Addressing the graduates, he stated, “Your true journey starts here.”

In his summary, Engr. Frederick Ewa, who leads the Metallurgical Inspectorate Department, disclosed that more than 258,000 applications were submitted across the country. Out of these, only 700 candidates were chosen following an extensive selection procedure based on merit. Describing the program as “a movement,” he emphasized its aim to revitalize Nigeria’s industry by focusing on nurturing the potential of young people, whom he considers the nation’s greatest resource.

Esemuede Omoruyi, who acts as the General Course Representative, expressed gratitude from all participants toward the Federal Government for investing in youth development. He also vowed to utilize their newly acquired abilities to make significant economic contributions.

The Bootcamp represents a crucial step in the Ministry’s larger initiative to establish Nigeria as a frontrunner in the local steel sector and foster a self-sufficient, industrially advanced country supported by a competent workforce.
