Assassin’s Creed Shadows: DLC, Free Updates, And New Story Revealed

Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduced the popular Ubisoft franchise to the setting of Feudal Japan. Although it is a single-player experience, Ubisoft provides ongoing support through a live-service approach, featuring a combination of paid expansions, free updates, and a comprehensive in-game microtransaction system that allows players to spend real money on unnecessary cosmetic items.

As reported by IGN, Ubisoft has revealed what the coming months hold for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. First, on July 29, a free update will be released that increases the level cap from 60 to 80 and adds New Game Plus, a feature originally intended for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla but never launched. This update will also include weekly missions that provide modern-day lore as rewards upon completion. While fans of the AC narrative may enjoy collecting these clues, it’s difficult to see how these lore fragments will be crucial to the story, which many dedicated followers would agree has been meandering aimlessly for much of the past ten years.

On September 16, the game’s first significant expansion, Claws of Awaji, will be released. It will be available at no cost to those who pre-purchased the game. Interestingly, there is no “Season Pass” or Gold Edition for the game, a feature commonly found in most other Ubisoft titles that provide straightforward access to all downloadable content. It’s possible that they believe they can generate more revenue by selling each DLC individually rather than as a package, or perhaps their strategies are too extended to fit the conventional season pass approach.

In September, a separate free update will be released, introducing the option to adjust the time of day, improved “unfogging” on the world map when reaching sync points, and additional customization features for the hideout area.

That’s all for “Year 1” of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but is there going to be a Year 2? Ubisoft recently celebrated that.five million playersHave you played the game, but is that sufficient? The straightforward response is, if the game receives a Year 2, then Ubisoft was satisfied enough with its success to continue supporting it. If the updates stop at Claws of Awaji, then it’s likely that Ubisoft has concluded their Japanese adventure and will be shifting focus to the next Assassin’s Creed title.
