Junior League Stocks Bus with School Essentials for New Year

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The Junior League of Bryan-College Station is launching‘Stuff the Bus’to an entirely new level.

On Friday, the group arrived at HEB on Tower Point in a real school bus.

Middle school student Emme Schaffer provided KBTX with a tour of the bus, highlighting the bags filled with donated items.

“You might go inside to HEB, head to their school supplies area, and purchase some items. Things like crayons, notebooks, markers, or anything else you need, then bring them here onto the bus,” she said.

Emme’s excitement about the school supply drive becomes understandable once you meet her mother, Sarah Schaffer.

When KBTX asked her how people had been responding to the school bus, her face lit up as she said, “They love it. They’re like a bus? Seriously? Can I drive it?” Sarah added.

Sarah is a foster and adoptive parent who has witnessed the urgent need for supplies in the Bryan and College Station region.

There are so many children who move from one home to another,” said Sarah. “At times, they only have the clothes they’re wearing. Therefore, they definitely lack the essential supplies needed to begin school.

The mother-daughter team, together with all the dedicated women from the Junior League, welcome everyone in the community to join them on Saturday to fill the bus for another day at HEB at the Tejas Center.
