ATHENS — As the official start of practice is just over a week away, the Lancaster football squad keeps preparing for the new season.
The Golden Gales went to Ohio University on July 21 to compete against Hilliard Davidson in a 7-on-7 passing drill. This was Lancaster’s third and last passing scrimmage of the summer.
Lancaster, recognized for its aggressive running approach, managed to gain significant value from Monday’s 7-on-7 drill against the Wildcats at OU’s Peden Stadium. Above all, it provided the Gales with an opportunity to test themselves on the field.
The Lancaster team showed great energy and passion, performing well on both offense and defense, and making impactful plays.
Senior quarterback Brody Burke from Lancaster, a three-year starter, mentioned that it is entirely different from playing in a real game. It allows quarterbacks, receivers, and defensive players an opportunity to observe coverages.
Any time we get to focus on our passing game, it’s beneficial,” said Burke, who threw for just over 1,000 yards last season. “I believe we’ll be even more effective in the passing game this year. I know that, being my third year as a starter, things are beginning to take longer, and I have a much better grasp of the game and our offensive system.
Collaborating with these individuals over the summer helps us continue progressing and improving as a team. Being in this setting provides us with an additional opportunity to compete and prepare for the upcoming season.
Senior tight end/linebacker Landon Knoch was among the most outspoken leaders during the practice game, and he was making impactful plays, including a diving interception. It was clear that he enjoyed being on the field.
This presents a fantastic chance for us to collaborate as a team,” Knoch stated. “I have a lot of appreciation for my team, and this is an exceptional group of individuals. When you’re out here, the desire to compete is always strong. It’s even more rewarding when you make a successful play and get to celebrate with your teammates.
We have a group of underdogs that others are dismissing, and we’re fine with that. We’ve put in additional effort, and by working together, we develop strong team chemistry. We’re excited to begin the season.
The initial official practice day is August 1st. The Gales will participate in two practice games, both held at their venue on August 8th against Independence at 6:00 PM, and August 14th at 6:00 PM against St. Charlles, prior to starting the season with an away match against Hilliard Darby on August 22nd. The first home game is scheduled for August 29th against Dublin Scioto.
