Only Five Footballers Have Played in All Five of Europe’s Top Leagues

Ex-players from Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are part of a small group of footballers who have competed in all of Europe’s top five leagues.

Although there is frequently discussion about which leagues are the most powerful, this article focuses on the traditional top five.

These are the five athletes who have competed in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.

Christian Poulsen

A Danish defensive midfielder represented eight distinct clubs during his professional journey and had periods in each of Europe’s top five leagues.

His most notable periods were with Schalke, Sevilla, and Juventus, during which he was at the peak of his professional life.

In 2010, Liverpool acquired him for approximately £4.5 million, but he remained at Anfield for just a single season before departing again.

Following his departure from Liverpool in 2011, Poulsen finished his collection of Europe’s major leagues by signing with Evian for the 2011-12 season.

He has since left professional football and was recently serving as an assistant coach for the Denmark national team.

Florin Raducioiu

A Romanian striker had a professional journey that lasted 19 years, from 1985 until 2004.

He was part of 10 various clubs during his professional journey and seldom remained in one location for an extended period.

Having established his reputation in his home country, he relocated to Italy in 1990 and played for Bari, Hellas Verona, Brescia, and AC Milan.

In 1994, he relocated to Spain and joined Espanyol, experiencing some of the most successful periods of his professional journey.

West Ham signed him in 1996, but he had difficulty adjusting to English football and remained with the Hammers for only half a season before going back to Spain.

Raducioiu spent a year competing in Germany with Stuttgart and had a short stint at Monaco just before retiring, scoring two goals in 12 matches.

Stevan Jovetic

Once considered one of the most talented forwards of his era, Joventic was in high demand during his initial years at Fiorentina.

Having achieved a remarkable goal-scoring performance in Italy, he joined Manchester City in 2013 for approximately £23 million.

The player from Montenegro netted 11 goals during his two-year period in England, although injuries had begun to limit his playing time by then.

That has consistently been a recurring theme in Jovetic’s career, especially during his later years at Sevilla, Monaco, and Hertha BSC.

From 2017 to 2021, the forward sat out more than 150 matches due to multiple injuries, and he has faced bad luck by suffering two distinct ACL injuries during his career.

Although he has faced a series of injuries, the 35-year-old continues to play professionally with Omonia in Cyprus.

Justin Kluivert

Notably, Kluivert succeeded in playing in every major European league before reaching the age of 25.

While with Roma, the Dutch striker spent time on loan in Germany, France, and Spain, and later moved permanently to Bournemouth in England.

A 26-year-old player has now become a leading figure in the Premier League, contributing 18 goals or assists in the league during the previous season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang’s presence on this list is accompanied by a note.

Although he has had notable periods in France, England, Spain, and Germany, he has never actually played in Italy’s top division.

The Gabonese international was registered with AC Milan between 2007 and 2011, yet he never played a league match for the Italian team, although he was occasionally listed on the substitutes’ bench.

As a result, he has technically never competed in Serie A, although since he was registered with Milan for four years, we have still added him to our list here.

His most productive periods were during his time in Germany with Dortmund and in England with Arsenal. He also left a positive impression while playing for Barcelona, Saint-Etienne, and Marseille.

Currently 36 years old, he is seeking his next team after recently playing for Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.
