Woman Alleged to Abuse Pets at Iredell County Grooming Business

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) – Officers from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office have filed charges against a woman for mistreating multiple animals at a pet grooming establishment.

On Wednesday, July 23, the sheriff’s office filed felony animal abuse charges against 28-year-old Kirsten Taylor following the alleged receipt of video footage showing mistreatment of animals at Classy Critters, a pet grooming business.

Authorities stated that they were reached out to by Iredell County Animal Services about animal abuse on Monday, July 21, and because of the seriousness of the situation, the sheriff’s department initiated an investigation.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on Friday, July 18, that animal services got reports and a video from a colleague at Classy Critters. The footage shows Taylor repeatedly hitting and improperly handling dogs while grooming them.

Authorities were able to verify that the dogs were owned by customers who had brought their pets in for cleaning.

Deputies stated that they examined the video and additional evidence, uncovering that at least four other dogs were also subjected to similar aggressive conduct.

Taylor faces four felony charges related to animal abuse.

This case underscores the essential need for unified actions in cases related to animal cruelty. Although we have a solid collaboration with Animal Services and recognize their contribution to this investigation, it’s crucial for the public to know that the Sheriff’s Office does not manage Animal Control operations in Iredell County,” Sheriff Campbell stated. “As Animal Control is a distinct department, specific investigative steps and responses must go through a referral procedure. We will consistently address reports of animal abuse and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
