Radiant Technologyhas launched a new device aimed at enhancing safety and providing added value for those building experimental aircraft—a 3 and 1/8-inch panel-mounted Turn Coordinator that features an altimeter and internal battery backup, all available at an introductory cost of $199.95.
Tailored for the homebuilt aircraft market, this new device delivers essential turn and altitude data even when the plane’s primary power source fails. Its solid-state construction offers the same performance as conventional vacuum or high-end electric gyros and can quickly recover from situations that would disrupt older mechanical systems.
James Wiebe, CEO of Radiant, emphasized the device’s function as a backup system. “This Turn Coordinator assists pilots in keeping a stable flight path through turn coordination and offers altitude information through a digital altimeter, providing effective secondary instrumentation,” he stated. “It is a smart investment for home-builders, and a superb option to be placed alongside much pricier advanced glass instruments.”
The unit is intended to fit a standard 3 and 1/8-inch panel opening and has an ultra-bright, high-contrast display that can be dimmed for nighttime use. Along with the turn indicator and inclinometer, it comes with a digital altimeter that includes a standard Kollsman window for adjusting barometric pressure. The altimeter operates between 0 and 20,000 feet, and Radiant claims that, when properly calibrated, its technology meets the relevant sections of the TSO for altitude accuracy.
The aircraft’s 12-volt electrical system provides power and automatically recharges the internal battery. The display continuously updates the battery’s charge level and indicates the external voltage, using color coding when the power falls below 12 volts. If there is a complete loss of ship power, the internal battery can operate the unit for more than three hours.
It should be emphasized that this product has not been tested according to TSO standards, nor was it manufactured in a PMA facility, and as a result, it is meant for use exclusively in experimental aircraft.
The updated Turn Coordinator (model RI-2025-7) can be purchased at a special rate of $199.95 until August 2025, with initial deliveries expected in late October this year.
