Jordan Ott Joins Valley Suns Coaching Staff

New Addition to Phoenix Suns Coaching Staff

A new name has been added to the coaching staff of the Phoenix Suns as they prepare for the upcoming season. John Little, who previously served as a member of DeMarre Carroll’s team in the Suns Summer League, will now join head coach Jordan Ott’s staff. This move marks an exciting step forward in Little’s career as he transitions from the G-League to the NBA.

How John Little Found His Way to the Suns

John Little made a significant impact during his time with the Valley Suns, the team’s G-League affiliate, in their inaugural season. Under his leadership, the team achieved a 20-14 record and secured a fifth seed in the Western Conference. Although they were eliminated by the Stockton Kings in the conference semi-finals, the team still managed to make a strong impression. The Kings went on to win the G League championship, but Little’s performance was widely recognized as a positive start for the franchise.

Before joining the Valley Suns, Little had a successful stint with the Wisconsin Herd. A native of Peoria, Illinois, he spent four years with the team before moving on to the Maine Celtics for the 2023-2024 season. There, he led the team to the second seed and helped them reach the G League Finals.

From Player to Coach

Little’s journey began at the University of Northern Iowa, where he played for four seasons and made three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. In his final season with the Panthers, he averaged 7.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. After college, he took his talents overseas, playing professionally in Germany for a decade. During that time, he was part of a FIBA Europe Cup championship-winning team with the Fraport Skyliners.

Upon returning to the United States, Little joined his alma mater, the University of Northern Iowa, as a video coordinator. He spent three years in that role before getting the opportunity to join the Wisconsin Herd, then the Maine Celtics, and finally the Valley Suns this past season.

A New Chapter in the NBA

This is the first time that Little will be coaching in the NBA, and he is joining an experienced coaching staff that includes DeMarre Carroll, Jesse Mermuys, Brian Randle, and Chaisson Allen. With his background in both collegiate and professional basketball, as well as his experience in the G-League, Little brings a valuable perspective to the team.

His transition from player to coach highlights the growing opportunities for individuals with a deep understanding of the game. As the Suns continue to build their roster and coaching staff, Little’s addition is seen as a strategic move that could help shape the future of the franchise.
