A Dog’s Heartbreaking Return After Just Seven Hours
A 2-year-old male dog named Kuno made headlines after being returned to a shelter just seven hours after being adopted. The incident, which took place in Gangneung, Gangwon, has sparked widespread outrage and concern over the treatment of animals.
Kuno was originally taken in by a new family on Saturday afternoon, but the adoption ended abruptly when the dog was returned to the Gangneung Regional Animal Center later that evening. What shocked staff was not only the quick return but also the drastic change in Kuno’s appearance. His once-fluffy coat had been completely shaved, leaving him with a patchy and poorly groomed look.
The shelter shared the story on its Instagram account, highlighting the emotional impact of the situation. In a post titled “Returned after seven hours, Kuno comes back with his coat ruined,” the center described how Kuno was known for his thick, fluffy coat, which resembled a mix between a Samoyed and a Chow Chow. However, upon his return, the dog looked completely different.
According to the shelter, the adopter cited “incompatibility with an existing pet” as the reason for the surrender. This explanation did little to ease the concerns of the staff, who were left questioning the decision to shave Kuno’s coat. The shelter expressed their disappointment, stating, “Only a patchy, poorly groomed coat remained after what appears to be an at-home grooming attempt.”
Despite the upsetting circumstances, Kuno seemed to remain cheerful. The shelter noted, “His coat may be in ruins, and we worried about the emotional toll, but thankfully, Kuno is still cheerful. That only makes us feel more heartbroken and sorry for him.”
Now, Kuno is once again looking for a permanent home. The center emphasized that he still loves people and hopes to find a family that can provide him with the care and attention he deserves. “If you’re truly ready to take lifelong responsibility, not acting on impulse, please give Kuno another chance,” they added.
The incident has led to a wave of online reactions, with many expressing their frustration and disbelief. One commenter wrote, “It’s heartbreaking that he came back in that condition — was he taken just for grooming practice?” Others criticized the decision to return the dog so quickly, saying, “Returning a dog on the same day over integration issues is unacceptable.” Another user added, “Anyone with common sense wouldn’t shave a dog on the first day of adoption.”
This story highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for thorough consideration before making the decision to adopt an animal. It also raises questions about the treatment of pets and the responsibilities that come with bringing a new animal into a home.
As Kuno continues his search for a loving family, the community remains hopeful that he will find the right home where he can thrive and regain his confidence. The incident serves as a reminder of the emotional bond between humans and animals and the need for compassion and understanding in every adoption process.
