Richmond Man to Face Sentence After Machete Attack That Left Victim Disabled

A Violent Attack Leaves a Man Permanently Disabled

In a tragic case that has shocked the community, a Richmond man is set to face sentencing for a brutal attack that left his victim permanently disabled. Brandon Paige, from Richmond, will be sentenced on Monday, July 28, following his involvement in an assault that occurred in August 2024. The incident, which involved both a machete and a firearm, resulted in severe injuries to Linwood Eddleton, Jr., who was 55 years old at the time.

The Assault: A Life-Altering Encounter

The attack took place on the afternoon of August 1, 2024, when Eddleton visited a relative named “Tyrone” at his home in Richmond. At the time, Paige, Tyrone’s stepson, was also living in the house, which was set up as a duplex. According to the release, Paige had previously warned Eddleton not to come around the residence.

Eddleton was sitting in a chair in the backyard when he heard a noise and turned to see Paige with a machete in hand. After a brief exchange, Eddleton stood up and attempted to escape. As he turned away, Paige swung at him, striking Eddleton in the head and causing a deep wound. Paige then chased Eddleton through the front yard and onto a nearby road, landing another blow on the back of his arm.

Once in the roadway, Eddleton turned to face Paige and raised his arm to protect himself. The machete sliced down to the bone, fracturing his forearm. In an attempt to defend himself, Eddleton tackled Paige, but this only led to further violence. Paige pulled out a gun and fired, hitting Eddleton in the right arm. The bullet shattered the bone just above Eddleton’s elbow, rendering the arm useless despite medical intervention.

The Aftermath: Recovery and Legal Consequences

Eddleton managed to wrap Paige in a “bear hug” while continuing to fight for his life. During this struggle, Paige hit Eddleton multiple times with the machete, including a deep cut that exposed his lung and diaphragm. After Eddleton let go, Paige retrieved both weapons and returned to the house, leaving Eddleton alone and severely injured.

When police arrived, they found Eddleton slumped against a fence, covered in blood. Despite his critical condition, he was able to provide officers with information about the attacker. Eddleton was rushed to a local hospital where he received emergency care for injuries that would have been fatal without immediate treatment.

Paige was later arrested, and authorities recovered two guns and a machete. One of the guns, a .40 Beretta, was matched to the bullet casings found at the scene. Eddleton’s blood was also found on both the Beretta and the machete.

During his interview with police, Paige admitted to ambushing Eddleton with both the machete and the handgun. He claimed that Eddleton had disrespected him and that he needed to send a message. However, during his trial on May 20, Paige attempted to claim that his confession was due to dissociative dementia, though he admitted to self-diagnosing himself.

Medical Evidence and Legal Verdict

Doctors testified about the lasting effects of the attack on Eddleton. His permanently disabled arm, along with multiple scars from the attack and surgeries, has significantly impacted his daily life. One surgery left him at a higher risk for hernia for the rest of his life.

Paige was found guilty of aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and felonious shooting/stabbing. His sentencing is scheduled for July 28, marking the end of a harrowing chapter for Eddleton and the community.
