A New Era of Innovation

The State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh, revealed this development during a press briefing. He shared that a company from Finland has already reached out to the state government to set up the AI Center. According to Dr. Ezeh, discussions are progressing well, and the center is expected to offer physical classes where students can enroll to study artificial intelligence. Experts will be involved in teaching the courses, ensuring high-quality education and training.

Dr. Ezeh emphasized the growing importance of AI across various sectors, stating that the center will significantly boost the state’s innovation ecosystem. “As we progress in life, the direction the world is going, AI has taken over virtually everything,” he said. This initiative is anticipated to give Enugu State a competitive edge in the technology sector, serving as a game-changer for the region.

Expanding Technological Education

In addition to the AI Center, the state government has also announced plans to provide free training on blockchain technology, also known as Web3, to between 5,000 and 10,000 individuals. This program, which will last over three months, aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to earn money online. The 2026 Enugu Tech Festival

Another key initiative is the planning of the 2026 Enugu Tech Festival, themed “Coal to Code: Energy in New Form.” Scheduled to take place between February 24-27, 2026, the festival is expected to attract 50,000 participants. It will feature educational exchanges, workshops, and panel discussions focused on energy-tech convergence and innovation ecosystems.

Dr. Ezeh highlighted the significance of the festival, stating that it aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to transform Enugu into a hub for innovation and technology. The event is designed to foster creativity, enhance skills, and promote sustainable development. To ensure the success of the festival, a planning committee comprising a Local Organizing Committee and an advisory board has been inaugurated. Notable figures such as Professor Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, are part of the advisory board.

A Vision for the Future
