Thomas Adewumi University Welcomes 780 New Students for Academic Journey
Thomas Adewumi University in Kwara State has officially welcomed 780 new students into its academic programs, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s growth. These freshers have been enrolled across seven faculties and 22 different academic programs, reflecting the university’s expanding reach and commitment to providing quality education.
During the matriculation ceremony held at the school auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, addressed the new cohort with enthusiasm and encouragement. She highlighted the increasing number of enrollments as a clear sign of trust placed in the university by both parents and students.
“Today, we formally welcome into our academic community a new group of 780 bright young men and women who have chosen to begin their higher education journey with us,” she said. “These figures reflect the growing confidence that parents and students have in Thomas Adewumi University as a center of academic excellence.”
Prof. Oladipo urged the students to take full advantage of the university’s resources, including its state-of-the-art facilities, experienced faculty, and peaceful learning environment. She emphasized the importance of academic and extracurricular engagement while maintaining the university’s code of conduct.
“We are dedicated to equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to succeed in an ever-evolving world. This university will continue to provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for you to thrive,” she added.
In his speech, the Chancellor and founder of the university, Johnson Adewumi, called on the students to uphold the values of the matriculation oath and represent their families with honor. He reminded them that their parents have made significant sacrifices to ensure their presence on campus, and it is now their responsibility to be ambassadors of their homes.
“Oath must be obeyed. Your parents have done well by ensuring you live on campus. It is now up to you to be worthy representatives of your families,” he stated.
Adewumi also stressed the importance of practical skills and global competitiveness, revealing that students are expected to complete hours of community service and obtain at least two international certifications before graduation. He encouraged the students to participate in skill acquisition programs and position themselves as future IT professionals.
“The university is committed to preparing you for the challenges of the modern world. By focusing on both theoretical and practical learning, we aim to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also equipped to make a difference globally,” he added.
The matriculation ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including representatives from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, led by Mr. Habib Usman Maiyaki, traditional rulers, parents, and other stakeholders from the education sector. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the collective support for the university’s mission.
