The TCDA was established by an Act of Parliament in 2019 with the primary objective of regulating and developing the production, processing, and trading of six key tree crops in Ghana. This includes offering guidance on best practices, innovations, and strategies to improve productivity and competitiveness. Additionally, the TCDA engages in research and development initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall performance of the sector.
The TCDA’s mandate also involves fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector entities, and local communities. By creating a conducive environment for investment and innovation, the authority aims to unlock the full potential of the tree crops industry in Ghana.
Key areas of focus for the TCDA include:
- Regulation and Standardization: Ensuring that all activities related to tree crops adhere to established standards and regulations.
- Capacity Building: Providing training and resources to farmers and other stakeholders to improve their skills and knowledge.
- Market Development: Exploring new markets and opportunities for the export of tree crops to increase revenue and economic benefits.
- Sustainability Practices: Promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable methods of cultivation and processing.
As the TCDA continues its work, the inclusion of individuals like Mr. Kweku Kum is expected to bring valuable insights and perspectives.
