Major Road Accident in Bangkok Injures Over 50 People
A serious road accident occurred in Bangkok on Friday night, resulting in more than 50 people being injured. The incident took place near the Suksawat Road expressway exit when a 22-wheeled sand truck experienced a tyre burst, causing it to crash into multiple vehicles.
The collision happened around 8 p.m. near a bus stop located in front of Rat Burana Temple in the Rat Burana district. The truck, which was reportedly losing braking power while descending from the expressway, struck a blue Route 21E bus, pushing it into a Toyota sedan. This chain reaction led to the sedan crashing into a roadside tree. Additionally, a road sign pole was knocked down, crushing a parked motorcycle.
Rescue efforts were quickly mobilized by police and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. The white Toyota van that was behind the truck sustained significant damage. According to initial reports, the accident caused widespread disruption and required immediate medical attention for those involved.
Pitak, the driver of the Toyota sedan, shared his account of the incident. He mentioned that he and his daughter were in the car when the bus suddenly hit them from behind. Later, he discovered that the bus had been struck by the out-of-control truck. His daughter suffered a mild concussion, while Pitak himself remained unharmed.
Sakda, a motorcyclist who was also injured in the crash, described hearing a loud noise before jumping off his bike just as the road sign fell. He witnessed the entire chain reaction, which ended with the car hitting the tree and coming to a stop.
Authorities confirmed that over 55 individuals were injured in the accident, with most sustaining minor wounds. All victims were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Emergency services worked efficiently to manage the situation and provide necessary care.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are currently underway. Police from the Rat Burana station have begun collecting evidence at the scene. Their findings will be crucial in determining the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
