On-Ground Inspection of Critical Infrastructure in Lahore
In a recent on-ground visit, the Parliamentary Secretary for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering (HUDPHED) in Pakistan, Sultan Tariq Bajwa, inspected key areas of Lahore to evaluate the performance of critical infrastructure following the recent heavy monsoon rains. The visit focused on Walton Road and CBD Route 47, where significant rainfall was recorded, reaching up to 178 mm.
Accompanied by several senior officials, including the CEO of CBD Punjab, Imran Amin, the Executive Director Technical of CBD Punjab, Asif Babar, and the Director Construction and Director Project Management, Asif Iqbal, Bajwa conducted a detailed inspection of the roads and drainage systems in these areas. The purpose of the visit was to assess the condition of the infrastructure after the intense weather event and to ensure that the city’s urban planning efforts had successfully mitigated potential issues.
During the inspection, Bajwa commended the efforts of CBD Punjab in modernizing the city’s infrastructure. He highlighted the successful implementation of an advanced sewerage system on Walton Road, which has significantly improved the situation regarding urban flooding. This development has addressed a long-standing problem that affected commuters for many years.
Bajwa expressed his satisfaction with the current state of the road, noting that there was no flooding observed during the recent rains. “A few years ago, it was almost impossible to travel on Walton Road during the rainy season,” he remarked. “However, after today’s heavy rain, traffic is moving smoothly, which clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of thoughtful planning and modern engineering.”
The improvements made to the infrastructure have not only enhanced the quality of life for residents but also showcased the importance of investing in sustainable urban development. By implementing advanced drainage solutions and upgrading existing systems, the authorities have been able to reduce the impact of extreme weather events on the city’s transportation network.
This visit underscores the commitment of local officials to ensuring that urban infrastructure can withstand the challenges posed by changing weather patterns. It also highlights the need for continued investment in such projects to maintain and improve the resilience of the city’s infrastructure.
