In his statement, Wilson expressed that after thoughtful reflection, he felt it was necessary to pause his campaign. He mentioned that personal matters have recently taken attention away from important issues that should be the focus of public discussion. These issues include public safety, housing affordability, and fair taxation. According to Wilson, removing any distractions is in the best interest of the community. He emphasized his continued commitment to the values that inspired his campaign and pledged to keep advocating for the priorities that matter most to King County residents. Wilson also thanked those who have supported him and looked forward to continuing to serve the community in his current role as Assessor.

Recent Arrest and Legal Issues

This announcement comes just over a week after Wilson was arrested by Seattle police for an investigation into stalking and violating a court order. The situation involves his former partner, who has taken out two restraining orders against him. In the most recent case, Lee Keller claimed that Wilson was in contempt of the latest order, stating that he posted a photo of her on LinkedIn. Keller also alleged that Wilson made “disparaging remarks and personal information intended to intimidate, stalk and harass.”

On the evening of July 2, Keller contacted the police to report that Wilson was outside her home. Officers then took him into custody. Wilson waived his right to appear at his bail hearing on July 3, remaining in jail while his attorney requested the judge to release him.

Calls for Resignation and Public Response

Before Wilson’s announcement, several prominent figures, including the Metropolitan King County Council and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, called for Wilson to resign from his elected position and drop his campaign for county executive. King County Executive Shannon Braddock also responded to the arrest through an emailed statement.

Braddock stated that the allegations against Wilson are disturbing and emphasized that King County residents deserve public officials who treat everyone with respect and conduct themselves with integrity. She reiterated her call for Wilson to resign immediately, highlighting the importance of upholding public trust as government leaders.

Ongoing Investigation

The Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. However, they have not provided an estimate for when a charging decision will be made. This development continues to draw attention to the legal challenges facing Wilson and the implications for his role as King County Assessor.
